DIY bookmark
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to read more then you of course need a new bookmark! This one is so pretty you’ll want to leave it out in the open inside your book complete with decorative ends so you will also never lose your place.
Materials
- Leather
- Felt
- Fusible Vilene (Vlieseline Freudenberg)
- Thread
- Scissors
- Hand gauge
- Clips
- Beads
- Beading needle
- Calligraphy pen
- Template
STEP 1
Use the template and cut one of fusible Vilene. Press it onto the wrong side of a leather piece and cut to size.
STEP 2
Remove the paper from the fusible Vilene and press the piece with wrong sides together onto a second leather piece. Topstitch close to all edges
STEP 3
Carefully cut away any excess seam allowances around all edges close to the stitching.
STEP 4
Use the calligraphy pen to write your personal message onto the leather and let it dry completely.
STEP 5
Use the round template to cut 6 or so circles (depending on the thickness of the felt).
STEP 6
Stack the felt circles together and stitch one time through the middle leaving about 10 cm/4 in of end threads.
STEP 7
String the beads onto the end threads and sew it securely onto the bookmark by hand.
FINISHED!
Add as many tassels and beads as you want to customize your bookmark. And if you are giving a book as a gift, then this decorative bookmark is also the perfect accompaniment.
