Why the new website?

Following the bankruptcy of our partner F&W, who managed all of Burda Style’s online operations, we had to urgently design a new site.

We are the official editor of this magazine, though we are, first and foremost, a team of sewing enthusiasts and passionate about all other creative hobbies.

Where are my purchases from the previous

The old website was developed in 2006 and was technologically outdated. Even though it was still functional for members, it was no longer maintained or updated which resulted in an obsolete database. Despite all our efforts, including an investment in data recovery, we were unable to export full order history and other aspects of your account.

At the time of bankruptcy, F&W attempted to contact all members via an email letter sent on October 14, 2019, announcing the takeover of the website and urging everyone to download their past purchases as the technical incompatibilities would result in data loss. The takeover happened quickly and F&W tried to communicate this to the Burdastyle community as best they could. We do apologize if you were among those who did not receive notification.

I have products in my customer account, but they are not the right ones

The old website, developed in 2006, was no longer maintained by a real technical team, although it was still functional for you. The technical structure of the database had become obsolete and prevented us from being able to export your order history.

Despite all our efforts, including our investment in a data recovery module, we were only able to save some visible information.

As a result, we were only able to create a shortened and incomplete export of your order history with F&W, which is why you will not find any products on ordered before 11/01/2019. Please accept our greatest apologies for this.

To prevent any orders from being lost, F&W had sent you an email on October 14th, 2019, announcing the closure of the website.

In this press release, F&W explained that their order history would be lost during this transition and asked you to download the orders you would like to keep on your computer.

There are several reasons why some of the products imported into your account may be the incorrect ones:

- The exported data contains some products that you had once added to your cart without finalizing the order. These unbilled and unpaid products had still been imported into your customer account.

- When the website was taken over, we were only legally able to retrieve official Burda Style products. Consequently, all downloadable products from a third party (products that do not come directly from our magazine archives) have been deleted, as there are no legal agreements allowing us to market them.

- The measures implemented in the data recovery module that we developed could not be adapted to all the order archives due to the obsolete structure of the database. As a result, some products linked to your customer account may have been automatically linked by mistake.

BurdaStyle is a place for people who sew or would like to learn. Our aim is to bring the traditional craft of sewing to a new generation of fashion designers, sewing hobbyists, DIYers and anyone looking to sew something.

We do not sell single copies of the magazine on our website. You can purchase the magazine at Barnes and Noble or JOANN Fabrics and Crafts.

How can I delete my account?

Please, contact us if you want to delete your account! Be sure before you make the request, that you have downloaded all your PDF models.

How can I search for a specific pattern?

- You can go to the Tops & T-shirts category, filter by year and month
- You can enter in the search bar 1280119 (pattern number + month + year without space)

How long will it take to receive a response from customer support?

We will do our best to answer your inquiry as quickly as possible. Please allow at least 24 hours (possibly longer on weekends, holidays or if we have a large number of inquiries) as we work through the requests in the order they are received.

Account and personal information

How do I register as a member?

Registration is free, quick and easy! Just click on the customer account pictogram and follow the instructions. You should get an email with a confirmation shortly after registering. If you do not, please check your Junk or Spam folder.

How can I change my contact details?

To change your personal details, it's very simple: go to your customer account and update your information.

How to create a wishlist?

Create your customer account and then easily add products to your Wishlist. To add products to your list, click on the little heart on the product pages. Click on the heart in the site menu to go to your whishlist.

How do I access my invoice?

Would you like to obtain a copy of your invoice? Nothing could be easier: login to your customer account, choose the order concerned and click on "Download my invoice".

I have moved. How so I change my address?

Please notify us of your new address in the contact form, we will make the necessary changes. Don’t forget to specify your order number and/or the delivery address in your message. Please note that any modification made in your personal account will not be taken into account on our end!

PDF pattern

I have not received my pattern yet. What should I do?

You bought a PDF pattern, you will not receive it by mail. Login on your customer account - "My downloadable products” and download your pattern and your instructions!

: The BurdaStyle team strongly encourages you to save all free and purchased patterns onto your desktop or external device. We can not guarantee your patterns be saved in the case of a site crash or other extreme technical emergency.

I did not want to have a PDF pattern!

We do not sell printed patterns and we do not offer refunds on digital patterns, except as noted in our FAQ. The patterns found on our web site are only available as digital downloads from our web site and are not available as printed patterns sold in stores. We try to make it as clear as possible that the patterns are downloadable.

If you cannot print your pattern at home, we suggest that you put the pattern onto a flash drive and take it to a local print shop. Most large office supply stores and Fedex locations offer this service. Some of them also allow you to upload files via their web sites.  A quick local Internet search should produce some results for you.

I think that there is a defect on my pattern. What do I do?

Please contact us if you think that the model has a defect. Don’t forget to specify the model number and attach photos or screenshots.

I would like a refund for my pattern purchase!

Refunds are only issued on a case-by-case basis for extenuating circumstances. If your pattern does not download, does not download completely, or is otherwise broken, please contact us as soon as possible. Refunds for any reason but technical issues with the download of a pattern are issued at our sole discretion, but may include:

-You placed your first order with us and did not understand the pattern was a digital download and you have not yet downloaded the pattern.

-You have purchased the same pattern more than one time

When reporting a technical problem with your purchase, please provide specific details, including:

– the email address associated with the purchase – the exact name of the pattern in question – the date of purchase – a complete and detailed description of what is unsatisfactory, or why you would like a refund for the pattern – a screenshot of any error message – and the type of browser used

How do I know if my PDF pattern is the right size?

You must check whether your printer settings have not changed the scale of the document while printing. To do this, start by printing only the sheet containing the test square and check that it measures10x10cm. Then, you can print all of the pages and assemble them. You can check our guide just here!

Do I need to add a seam allowance?

Seam allowances are not included in Burda Style patterns, but the instructions may indicate that seam allowances have been included. Be sure to read the model instructions.

How are Burda Style patterns sized?

Burda sizes are generally larger than "standard” sizes. Therefore, check your measurements and refer to the Burda size guide!

Can I sell Burda patterns which I have sewn myself?

Following our rules and what is mentioned in our magazine, our patterns can be copied only for private use and cannot be sold. On the other hand, if one of our readers buys a magazine or a pattern and has it made by a professional seamstress for his or her own use, then there is no problem.

How can I sell your patterns in my haberdashery?

What do the stars mean on a product page?
