In 1947, Christian Dior established the "New Look" that awakened the feminine silhouette anew. Wide swinging skirts and narrow waistlines were evident in nearly every fashion hit of the 1950s. Audrey Hepburn confirmed the charm with her award-winning performance in 1953 for "Roman Holiday" when she wore her calf-length bell skirt. In 1959, Brigitte Bardot turned heads in "Come dance with me!" wearing the wasp waistline and petticoat look. It goes without saying, that "burda" readers, too, were fond of the bell-shaped skirt craze. The "moss green summer skirt with coordinating belt" from "burda moden" of 7/1958, celebrates its 60th birthday this month.

As we continue to appreciate the many ways to celebrate our feminine shape - and the hourglass silhouette still holds exceptional charm - we have brought back the flared midi skirt with fresh details. The cut itself is quite nearly the same. Rather than choosing to sew it in a satin, we freshen it with a modern choice of a fun cotton jacquard with a summery palm tree print.
Back View and Technical
The updated styling for today includes a simple blouse or T-shirt. Rather than white gloves and a matching colour belt, we relax the outfit with bright summer accessories. Style tip: To keep the stretched look for the style, as the midi skirt hits at the calf, high heels are a must. The best choices include a pair of pumps or some wedges.
