Poplin's Properties:
Poplin is a durable fabric known for its smooth surface. It is typically made from twisted cotton threads and offers great comfort due to its lightness and cool feel on the skin. Poplin is not very stretchy, though there are stretch versions with elastane, known as stretch poplin.
Poplin's Use: a Favorite for Blouses and Tops
Easy to handle, poplin is often favored for shirts and blouses because it is breathable, very easy to sew, and adds a touch of elegance. Its tightly woven twill gives it a fine ribbed structure, perpendicular to the grainline, achieved by using twice as many warp threads as weft threads. Poplin is medium weight, slightly lustrous, with a weight ranging from 100 to 150 g/m². It is highly recommended to use it on the grainline (with the warp threads parallel to the selvage).
Poplin's History:
Its name comes from "papeline," referencing the papal city of Avignon, France, where it was originally made. It was often made from silk or virgin wool, but nowadays cotton and fiber blends dominate.
In either floral prints or solid colors, poplin remains a wardrobe staple, appreciated for its comfort and versatility. Discover our selection of 5 spring models where it unfolds with elegance and refinement!

Poplin Shirt 124 | Burda Style 02/25
The blouse ensures elegant and relaxed silhouettes that can be personalized to your liking.
The blouse is available to sew in a range of Curvy sizes from 46 to 56. The pointed yokes, collar, and sleeve cuffs are adorned with embroidery, perfectly fitting into the current Western trend. The length is extended with rounded hems for a more feminine look. We’ve mixed the direction of the stripes, making the poplin piece even more dynamic.
