Whether you are shopping or headed to the beach this sporty neon bag with mesh has a lot of room to stask everything from a towel to even an extra change of clothes! Read on to see how to make one for yourself...

  • Bias tape 3 cm/ 1 1/8 in
  • Thread
  • Paracord
  • Belt web
  • Cord toggle
  • Sewing pins
  • Scissors,
  • Sewing clips
  • Patchwork ruler
  • Chalk pencil
  • Measuring tape

 

STEP 1

Cut pieces (measurements include 1.5cm/ 5/8in seam allowances): 1-x bottom 39 x 53 cm/ 15.5 x 21 in, 2-x mesh 31.5 x 53 cm/ 12.5 x 21 in, 1-x casing 104 x 18 cm/ 41 x 7 in , 2-x belt web apx. 88 cm/ 34.5 in

Sew bottom panel with right sides facing on each of the sides with the right sides of the mesh with the belt web secured between the layers (11 cm/ 4.5 in distance from the middle on each side). Enclose the allowances with bias tape along those edges.

Press the allowance under and stitch close to the edge on the right side. Stitch the side seams together and enclose the allowances with bias tape.

Sew bottom corners: Fold the side seams at the middle bottom and stitch across the corners at 4 cm/ 1.5 cm distance.

Cut the corner allowances back to 1.5 cm/ 5/8 in and enclose each of the corner allowances with bias tape.

Sew the casing at the side seam with right sides facing with a 2 cm/ 7/8 in allowance and leaving an opening of 8 cm/ 3.25 in. Press the allowances open and topstitch along both right edges at 1 cm/ 3/8 in.

Press the casing in the middle and stitch 4 cm/ 1.5 in from the upper edge. Topstitch a second row of stitching apx. 1 cm/ 3/8 in away from the first.

Stitch the casing right sides toggether around the bag piece (mesh). Stitch the bias tape around the edges in the fold.

Fold the bias tape around the allowance edges and stitch close to the edge.

Press in 10 cm/ 4 in from the mesh edge in (casing pressed toward the top). Pin the straps securely and topstitch from the right side around the full round (a distance of 9 cm/ 3.5 in from the upper edge).

Stitch the upper edge of the straps in place along the right side.

Inside of the bag: All seam allowances are finished with bias tape.

Pull the paracord through the casing (using a safety pin, to help pull it through). Attach the cord toggle and knot the individual ends.

Thanks to the cording, the opening of the bag can be adjusted.
