DIY embroidered brooches

BUZZING ABOUT - magical embroidered brooches in insect shapes to decorate lapels, tops and more.

 

Materials


Burda Style

 

  • Felt (3 mm)
  • Beads/sequins to sew on
  • Beading wire
  • Brooch pin back
  • Sew-on stones
  • Thread 
  • Beading needle
  • Fabric glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Template 

 

STEP 1


Burda Style

 

Trace template onto felt and cut without seam allowances. Begin at the head and securely sew the beads along the head outline. Fill a second row with beads, as well.

Once you have completed the head with two rows of beads around, sew a large sew-on stone in the middle.

Create the eyes using beads and sequins, as shown. Sew everything securely and be sure knots are durable.

Sew small beads along the body and wing outlines by hand and secure them well.

 

STEP 5

Sew large sew-on stones at the inner body outline securely. Fill any spaces of the body with small beads.

Fill the wings with small beads until all spaces are covered.

 

STEP 7

Use 4 pieces of beading wire for insect legs (each apx. 5 cm/2 in) cut to length and thread the beads onto the wire. Poke the wire ends through the felt and secure them in place with fabric glue.

 

STEP 8


Burda Style

 

Finallly, cut a small bit of felt to use with the brooch pin and use the fabric glue to secure the pin onto the back side of the brooch.
