How sweet - and also absolutely practical. A pin cushion in the shape of a cake slice is a great treat to sew.

Cut template pieces 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 each 1-x of felt. Cut template piece 4 of Style-Vil foam.
Sew piece 1 (icing cap) by hand into a ring. Then sew the upper individual edges together and decorate with individual beads.
Stitch piece 2 (cake crust) and 3 (rim roll) together 1 cm/ 3/8 in from the upper edge and cut the allowance back to apx. 0.7 cm/ 1/4 in.
Pin piece 4 of foam under the seam allowance and sew it in place by hand.
Pin piece 5 (top of cake) covering the seam allowance and stitch 1 cm/ 3/8 in from the edge.
Shape the rim roll and use the embroidery floss to sew around at even distances to create the detail.
Fill the icing deco with wadding and sew onto the top of the cake. Sew piece 6 (side) with a festoon stitch on the upper and back edges.
Sew piece 7 (bottom) onto the lower sides with a festoon stitch. Fill the cake with wadding and close the final seam by hand.
Throwing a sewing brunch? This makes the perfect (and yummy) little sewing project to make along side some real cake and tea.
