DIY cake pin cushion
How sweet - and also absolutely practical. A pin cushion in the shape of a cake slice is a great treat to sew.
Materials
- Felt
- Wadding
- Style-Vil foam (both Vlieseline Freudenberg)
- Thread
- Beads
- Embroidery floss
- Pins
- Hand sewing needle
- Scissors
- Ruler

STEP 1
Cut template pieces 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 each 1-x of felt. Cut template piece 4 of Style-Vil foam.
STEP 2
Sew piece 1 (icing cap) by hand into a ring. Then sew the upper individual edges together and decorate with individual beads.
STEP 3
Stitch piece 2 (cake crust) and 3 (rim roll) together 1 cm/ 3/8 in from the upper edge and cut the allowance back to apx. 0.7 cm/ 1/4 in.
STEP 4
Pin piece 4 of foam under the seam allowance and sew it in place by hand.
STEP 5
Pin piece 5 (top of cake) covering the seam allowance and stitch 1 cm/ 3/8 in from the edge.
STEP 6
Shape the rim roll and use the embroidery floss to sew around at even distances to create the detail.
STEP 7
Fill the icing deco with wadding and sew onto the top of the cake. Sew piece 6 (side) with a festoon stitch on the upper and back edges.
STEP 8
Sew piece 7 (bottom) onto the lower sides with a festoon stitch. Fill the cake with wadding and close the final seam by hand.
