DIY: Sew a Charming Bookmark

Supplies

  • Leather
  • Felt
  • Vliesofix
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Graduated ruler with notches
  • Pliers
  • Beads
  • Beading needle
  • Calligraphy pen (optional)

Cutting Out

Cut out the pattern. You'll find the pattern template and instructions in PDF format for free to download at the end of this article!

Create

STEP 1

Cut out the Vliesofi template x1, heat-seal it to the reverse side of the leather, and cut it out. 

STEP 2

Remove the backing paper from the Vliesofix and it iron on to the wrong side of the leather. Topstitch all around. 

STEP  3

Gently trim the seam allowance all around. 

STEP 4

Write the desired phrase in pen on the bookmark, then leave to dry (optional step).

STEP  5

Cut out the round pattern template approximately 6 times in felt (depending on the thickness of the felt).

STEP 6

Stack the felt circles on top of each other and sew through the middle once. Trim the threads to approximately 10 cm.

STEP 7

Attach the desired beads to the ends of the thread, and secure the beaded tassel to one end of the bookmark.
