DIY: Sewing Heart-Shaped Coasters with Fabric Scraps

SUPPLIES

  • Fabric scraps
  • Thread
  • Patchwork ruler
  • Straight pins
  • Fabric scissors
  • Heart template available in the sewing notebook of Burda Style May 2024 or for free download at the end of this article.

CUTTING OUT

For one coaster:

  • Heart template: 2x
  • Fabric strip of 6 x 90 cm: 1x

Seam allowances of 0.7 cm are included

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Fold the strips on the fold, right sides together, and stitch both short edges.

Trim the corners and turn right side out.

STEP 2

Make two rows of stitching along the open edge of the fabric, gather and pin to the fabric heart all around (open edge to outside).

Stitch 5 mm (1/4 in) all around.

STEP 3

Pin on the other heart, right sides together, and stitch all around. Leave an opening between the transversal marks to be able to turn inside out.

Turn inside out through the opening and stitch close to the edge, catching the opening.
