STEP 1
Pieces A, B, C with 1 cm (3/8 in) seam allowance: A (top) 2 x from denim with stars; B (bottom) 1 x on fold from denim; C (lining) 1 x on fold from cotton; D (zip fastener end) & E (loop) 1 x each from leather
STEP 2
Apply leather glue to one end of piece D, 1 cm (3/8 in) on both sides. Fold 2 cm (3/4 in) and adhere to the end of the zip fastener
STEP 3
Stitch close to the edge and then care-fully trim the seam allowance to approx. 2 mm (1/8 in).
STEP 4
Sew the zip fastener to the two long sides of piece A (close to the edge).
STEP 5
Pin piece B (bottom part) to both upper pieces A, right sides together, and stitch at 1 cm (3/8 in).
STEP 6
Turn right side out and stitch the seam allowance (pressed downwards) to piece B (bottom part), creating a narrow seam
STEP 7
Glue the loop (E) to both sides and top-stitch, creating a narrow seam. Now fold at the centre and stitch to fix in place.
STEP 8
Turn the pencil case inside out and stitch the two side seams closed at 1 cm (3/8 in). The loop will be sewn into one of the sides (point-ing inwards).
STEP 9
Fold the bottom, draw a line with chalk pencil, and topstitch on both sides (here approx. 7 cm (2 3/4 in) long). Next, trim the seam allow-ance to 1 cm (3/8 in).
STEP 10
Sew the lining C together (right sides together, first the side seams and then the bottom corners). Now fold the upper edge inwards at 1 cm (3/8 in) and press.
STEP 11
Insert the lining into the pencil case and sew in by hand.
FINISHED!
Robust denim is perfectly suitable – and can also be washed at any time.
EYE-CATCHER
Of course a pencil case like this looks great alone – but the loop on the side is a perfect place to put a personal (DIY) pendant.
