STEP 1

Use the rotary cutter and patchwork ruler to exactly cut 5 x 5 cm from different denim fabrics.
STEP 2

Iron the denim squares to the back of the quilter’s grid in random order (finished dimen-sions of clutch: approx. DIN A3, 46 x 31.5 cm)
STEP 3

First sew all the vertical seams: pin each one right sides together and stitch 0.5 cm (1/4 in) from the edge
STEP 4

Next, use the seam ripper to carefully separate the seams and then press flat
STEP 5

Sew and then separate all horizontal seams like in steps 2 and 3. Next, cut them out on a diagonal to size DIN A3 (approx. 46 x 31.5 cm (18 1/8 x 12 1/2 in))
STEP 6

Now iron the H 310 interfacing to the back (46 x 31.5 cm (18 1/8 x 12 1/2 in)) so that all seam allowances are flat.
STEP 7

Use a piece of bias binding to bind both ends of the zip fastener (2 x, length approx. 2.5 cm (1 in))
STEP 8

Fold and press the upper edge 1 cm (3/8 in) and sew the zip to both sides close to the edges (when folded, the clutch will be approx. DIN A4-size)
STEP 9

Turn the handbag inside out (leave the zip open to turn right side out) and stitch the two side seams 1 cm (3/8 in) from the edge. Press the seam allowances and turn right side out
STEP 10

Cut out lining fabric (29.5 x 42 cm (11 5/8 x 16.5 in)), fold wrong sides together and stitch the two side seams 1 cm (3/8 in)) from the edge. Carefully press the seam allowance apart.
STEP 11

Press the upper edge of the lining under 1 cm (3/8 in) and sew to the patchwork handbag by hand along the zip fastener
FINISHED

The effort pays off as the clutch looks fabulous! Of course you can sew this model in colourful cotton fabric if you’d like. Perfect for using up scraps! And a welcome gift idea
