Vintage Shrug Revisited

Added May 25, 2011

by tanitisis

Calgary, Canada

I happen to have in my possession a vintage 50s knit shrug (a hand me down from some older relative). Sadly, the original has now acquired a few mothholes and is not really wearable any more. So I set out to clone the pattern. After a couple of attempts I have a shrug I love and a multi-size pattern that I hope some of you will enjoy!

You can see my first version of this pattern here

And read all about it on my blog

Material Notes

Sweater-weight novelty knit.

stunning. I love it!!! I love the curvy line at the front, the pearl button, the sleeve length – and it is so feminine and useful! Thanks SO much for the pattern!!

Is this one the original or the one you made?

This is my remake, using the size small from my pattern. It’s quite a bit more fitted than the original shrug was on me—-I like this fit much better.

Thanks, guys! Sorry there’s no technical drawing on the pattern itself, I tried to edit it to upload a better version and it removed the old one but won’t upload the new! :P

I love that you “saved” this by re-creating it and then sharing it. I really like the knit you used, are they little pearls all over it? So sweet xx

It’s a bit of a novelty yarn with little tufts of shiny fibres sticking out at intervals. The whole thing is covered with little tinselly hairs, too. It’s very sparkle-princess fun :) A pearl-embroidered sweater knit, now that would be heavenly, wouldn’t it?
