This is my version of the Sorbetto top that has been so popular on Burda Style. Like some of you, I had to make several alterations to the darts and their placement on my bustline. Even with this top they are not where they should be so I have diverted attention away from them by embellishing the neckline with a bit of the left over fabric and some sweet little square Mother of Pearl buttons.. This top was literally made with a bag of leftovers from another project made several years ago. I am loathe to throw away any scraps! I also had to lift the shoulder seams by 1.5cm, hence I lost my hem. I am quite long in the body so I couldn’t turn up the hem, so I managed to make a bit more bias and added that to the hem line and slightly ease in the top to give it a different look. I am really pleased with this top and it will become another favourite in my summer wardrobe. I will definitely be making more Sorbettos, but with my alterations.
Cotton from Lisa’s Fabrics, Southport, Gold Coast and Mother of Pearl buttons bought online from the Country Bumpkin in Adelaide.

Thank-you so much. It is comfortable and the fabric is so cool to wear. A very good quality Japanese cotton, hence the reason for keeping the left over fabric from the other project. I have made a couple more Sorbetto’s and they are perfect for the hot summers that we have in Brisbane.

Great detailing! I’m currently making my own two, a trial then one to wear for a sort of special occasion on Saturday! Hurrah! :) x

I hope your Sorbetto’s turn out well and that the darts are in the right spot !! Look forward to seeing some photos of them.

Very nice! I know what you mean about the darts – I’m working on a sorbetto at the moment and actually ended up removing the darts altogether!

I was too thinking of removing the darts as I really don’t need them. Maybe running an easing stitch down from under the arm to where the darts should be could give this top the fit it needs. I will try it!! Good luck with your Sorbetto.

love the neckline detail…so clever! you took away the pleat though, so it looks really quite different from the sorbetto. love your take on it!

Thanks for your lovely comments. I didn’t have enough material to have the pleat but the next Sorbetto will have one plus a bit more embellishment too.

Thanks Gabriele. I love buttons and have a huge collection from thrift shops plus the ones my Mum and great aunt have handed over to me. Some are quite old and so beautiful.

The darts seem to be a problem for most of us.

Thanks Jenny; yes I am quite pleased with the collar too. I was just playing around as I was a bit fed up with the darts. I literally made this top with no fabric left over at all and that was so satisfying!!
