This sewing and pattern-drafting project couldn’t have been easier! I recently got in touch with Tina Sparkles, author of Little Green Dresses (an awesome book with 50 original sewing patterns & projects) and asked her if I could feature her basic skirt pattern on BurdaStyle. She said “of course” and wanted to see BurdaStyle’s version. Well here it is!
I made Tina’s “Ultra Miniskirt” in sage green reverse silk charmeuse— I wanted a vintage look that appears soft and worn-in, while having a boudoir sort of feel, like silk you’ve had for years…Paired with my vintage mushroom silk blouse the look was romantic and not too fussy. This is the perfect beginner’s project, it couldn’t be easier to sew this elastic waist skirt— and the look can be much more than simple, depending on the type of fabric you use and how you style your look.
1 yard sage green charmeuse, 30" elastic band

Wow—easy AND fabulous. I’m going to see if I can get my daughter to try this as her first sewing project.

Alison! I LOVE your version of the skirt and also your styling! I also like how you altered the pattern to include only a CB seam and a deeper hem. You can really do anything to any pattern to make it your own, and you really demonstrated that well on this project!!!
