One of five master patterns found in The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook, now available in E-Book format!
Our blouse is feminine, with a downtown edge. This style flatters the torso while accentuating the waist with a drawstring and gathered skirting. If sewing silk seems daunting, use cotton the sewing process will be much more forgiving. For the trim, try pulling inspiration from vintage chemises and use a contrasting color, like tan velvet on a cream-colored silk blouse.
1 3/4 yard (1.6cm) fabric, 55" (139.5cm) wide. Zipper, lightweight fusible interfacing, elastic, ribbon or trim and a safety pin.

I like this blouse, and I want to make it, but a few things annoy me. 1. I thought those lines were pleats, but it’s just ribbon sewed on the front. 2. The example is in black material, and it’s hard to see the detail, and 3. the model has long hair covering most of it, so again, I can’t see the detail! I got my book for Xmas and I’ve been rereading it over and over and I’m so excited I don’t know what to make first!

Making the blouse in cotton and silk would really extend my wardrobe.
I just had a preview of the Sewing Handbook on Amazon and it looks great. The photography is beautiful.

Just bought the book on holidays in Thailand. I’m so excited to get started on some of the patterns, especially this blouse, especially since I just received my brand new sewing machine yesterday!

Hi, Is there a pattern for the skirt in the above photo? I just received my copy of the Burda book today but I didn’t see the skirt in any of the photos. I would love more information about it. Thanks!!

I love this blouse, but the book will only be available in France (on Amazon.fr) on January 28! So it’s a bit frustrating to have to wait 3 months to able to download the pattern! I could order from amazon.com, but I’ve found that shipping to France is expensive and can take forever.
