I guess the puckery is the bubble of the dart? Mainly it just practise for darts and you will get less of it, The best way is at the end of the dart instead of stopping sewing, sew a few small stiches right on the end fold of the dart. Then instead of stopping the machine let it “sew-off” the end of the dart so you pull the fabric from under the foot while the machine is still going this will give you a tail of thread to knot. Then just iron the S*%T out of them. These should help the ‘puckery’ at the end of the darts.

If this was your first attempt at sewing, then you’re already off to a really great start with that amazing fabric! I’m a sucker for florals. Yeah, I think the “puckery” is the dart, there to give your hips a little wiggle-room but tuck the waist in?

Ummm . . . I’m guessing the darts is what you’re referring to as “puckery.” I think you did well for your first try. If you don’t like the “puckery,” you could try an A-line skirt instead or something else without any darts.
