Look at the right side of the picture, there’s a button that says “Add a project” from there you can do it, it’s a step by step thing.

Little girls like pink hats!!!! LETS MAKE THEM BREAST CANCER AWARENESSSSS!!!!!
Jun 24, 2010, 07.24 AMby enchantedalice
Hey girls I have a challenge for you!!! Lets all make a summer hat in a unique way, be it simple or outrageous. Put as many Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons on that cool summer hat as you want and wear it to the market every Saturday… Wait, wear them whenever the heck you feel like it!!!!! Remember, PINK DOESN’T MEAN PRETTY!!! It means whatever your heart says it does.

I made one really quickly for my baby, and put up an illustration of how I did the brim:

I don’t know if there’s a better way, but this way worked for me.

nice tutorial! I do like the way the inside and outside are sewn together; can’t wait to try this. This hat could use some embellishment too. it would be much easier to find an old baseball cap that fits the way you like it, and use that as a pattern, rather than drafting the crown. For the brim, you want to fit the inside circle to the crown-I would sew the crown pieces together, then just set them on top of a piece of paper and draw a rough circle. you can refine it later with a compass or something round from the kitchen. Then decide how wide you want your brim, and draw another circle that far from the previous inside circle. I am going to make this hat; I need a full-brim hat just for a change of pace, since I have about 15 baseball caps. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cowgirl53/sets/72157604063204489/

thanks so much for this tutorial! I’ll probably use it for a marriage hat

I had to read through the instructions twice to figure out how to assemble the hat, and noticed that in several places the instructions are incomplete and even incorrect. This project uses fusible webbing like wonder-under to fuse the lining to the self fabric. You could not do this with using just an additional layer of fusible interfacing as the instructions say.
It would also be helpful to include more information on creating the hat brim pattern piece. Even if the measurements are variable some steps on how to use those measurements to draft the pattern are important.
I will probably still use this tutorial to make a hat this summer – I’ve already burned once already.

interesting way of joining the lining, I would have sewn it inside out, leaving room to turn it over, then hand stitch the rest, or do a bias edge, but I like the embroidery idea, and this finish sure is faster

Nice! This looks REALLY similar to the hat I made last summer from the May 09 Burda magazine. :)

I’m so glad you all are excited about the hat! Are there any other tutorials you would like to see on BurdaStyle?

I would love to see a fedora tutorial, if you can.

YES!!! I would like to see this summer hat with a Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon on the back to cover your neck in the simplest or most outrageous way you can think of. Ask other people to do the same and lets see you all wear them to the market every Saturday!!!! I LOVE YOU LADIES!!! BE YOU!!!!! How many are we now?

I think this is a really good idea to replace perhaps patterns or restyles and mix things up a bit. More bags are a definite, I love bags but it’s hard to make them, and maybe slightly daft stuff like hooded towels and accessories as opposed to clothes :)

Also a top hat. !!! :D:D

Burdastyle: YOU ARE MY HEROES! I’ve been looking for a tutorial like this, I really, really want a hat just like this one (I almost bought a similar straw hat in Marseille last summer, but at almost 200US$ and with a Ryan Air-flight ahead of me I didn’t find it wise), it’s gorgeous! Thank you so much!
