Mother’s Day Gift Idea (or stocking stuffer at Christmas time)
I saw this little bag in a shop when I visited Wellington in November 2009 and I’ve been planning to make myself one ever since. I’ve seen a few more around since then and considering Mother’s day is not far away it’s the perfect excuse to make a few to give away (and of course one for me). Now here’s the crazy part, I bought all my fabric, sketched myself a plan of attack, made a pattern and got underway. I figured it would be nice to share a little tutorial and pattern here and then one of the blogs I followed shared this link! It’s the craziest timing but I guess not so much so when you consider the time of year. I have chosen to share my version anyway, it never hurts to have a couple of points of view and I am sure between my scribbles and ikat’s amazing photos others can make some cute bags too :) I love that we chose similar fabrics too and I am glad I’m not the only one obsessing over mini strawberries that turn into carry bags :) I hope you like, they are so quick to whip up and I look forward to seeing your versions.

these remind me of a zip up coin purse i bought in edinburgh. it’s made of felt and has little beads on them for the strawberry seeds. its the exact same size, though, as one of your adorable drawstring bags!

I had one of these that I bought in China for 8RMB… although making it yourself is definitely preferable since the one I had was really cheaply made and broke when I overloaded it with fruits one day :( (of course it was my fruit bag!)

Making one or two is pretty quick, I made 5 in a row, so it took me a bit longer, it’s a bit repetitive and I was still prefecting it in my head but I reckon in half a day I’d get 10 made easy for Christmas presents :)

Very cut! To bad, that your post came so late… This gift won’t reach my mother in time…
