Description

Another item in my sewing for others collection that I made for a friend.

This is a pattern that kind of grew on me the more I looked at the technical drawing, and since this friend covers her hair, the long hem and long sleeves fit perfectly!

This is probably the most elaborate piece I’ve sewn so far! A lot of pattern pieces, a lot of darts and seams and folds, it was a real patience and precision tester for me :D But the result is so awesome, it was worth all that effort.

I followed the instructions pretty much all the way, apart from eating a bit into the seam allowances at the sides adding 2cm of ease, so the silhouette isn’t super hugging. I also bought the pattern online from the Russian Burda Style and they referred the instructions for the collar and the sleeve placket to another pattern and I was too lazy to ask for those instructions so I winged it. I did get the other set of instructions later just in case :)

I like this shirt so much, it almost pains me to give it away. But hey! I can always make myself one later :)

I like this contrast print! This shirt looks great at the expense of lengthening the hem. In this, there is some retro chic. You look amazing. I would like to sew a similar thing ))

Wonderful blouse, I have the same opinion about the pattern and as more I look at it, the more I like it and especially in your interpretation:-) Sportive shirts from floral prints is my strong weakness:-) It looks so great in floral print and both the colour and the pattern suit you. The fitting is so perfect that I even don’t think it is worth mentioning – so obvious it is! Great job!

Hi Maria. I like your version better than the original. It inspired me to have another look at the pattern. I like both your fabric choice & the slighter looser fit, & am I right in thinking you haven’t hidden the buttons? I don’t really like the back details on this pattern but now thinking it might be worth altering it. All the darts & waist seam would make it easier to fit than other shirt patterns.

Thank you so much! I have actually hidden the buttons, the only ones visible are the sleeve and collar ones as per pattern. I was skeptical about the back detail too, the skirt bit to be precise and thinking it would look good also if the front skirt shape is reused there. It’d probably look good with either the front overlapping the back one as in the original design or vice versa, but haven’t tried that myself to see how it’ll actually be :)

Wow for the fit of this! I would bet it was made for you not anyone else! The print is very special but what I like the most is the hourglass shape- really dramatic and pleasant to the eye!

Wow! 22 pieces!!! With this one you proved your great sewing skills! However, I think that the great job you’ve done is somehow “lost” under this bold print. I think that when you make yours, you should try a plain color so that all this work will show off!

Thanks Elpida :) Maybe you’re right, but I still think the nice fit and silhouette pays off. What I have in mind is not plain, but a lot calmer than this print, so maybe it shows better :)

Hahaha! Most of the time I do exactly that. And soon I’ll be back to that. Thanks for the comment :)
And I think your sewing is really good too, you just keep selecting these tricky fabrics :)

very true i have defo selected some tricky even obscure fabrics in my time looking at my studio hahaha! it can feel deflating if the project is a major failure :( but live and learn, it quite often is only due to using inappropriate fabrics lolz x

Well done, Maria – it looks fantastic. It’s so rewarding to make something with more finer details and to see it turn out right, I think. Can’t believe you winged the collar though – that’s brave!!! :)

Well, it’s not my first collar, so I already knew how the construction generally works, these were wings that flew before :D
