This is a birthday surprise for my daughter who loves rainbows. I used the TR (transformation reconstruction) technique to turn a plain A line dress into a colourful rainbow. Modelled here by the elder sister who is in on the secret!
The dress is fully lined so that with a long sleeve T-shirt underneath she can wear it for winter too. The dress does up with an invisible zip at the centre back which goes down to the join of the red and orange swashes.

This is so great! I’ve been curious about trying some patterns with the TR technique. Great job!

On my daughter’s birthday present suggestion list is a rainbow dress, rainbow shirt and something else rainbow, which I can’t remember what it was. She’s also getting a new leotard I made her for gymnastics with printed rainbows all over it!

Wow! I love it too. I have absolutely no experience with TR technique – could you send a link or more info?
I would wear it, and I’m on the far side of 40!

Hi Puffling, the best place to see TR stuff is on their YouTube channel:

Glad you like it! I was actually really pleased with how all those seams worked. I did have some tips from a professional dressmaking via my blog, so that helped!

Very girly! It reminds me of dresses from K3 – a Belgian/Dutch popgroup for little girls: http://webshop.studio100.be/CmsData/Artikelen/Fotos/POST290200/POST290200_mi1_pd550_1.jpg
