Very warm tailored coat made to my mother’s pattern from 1969 (Style 2547). I didn’t make a muslin, as I’d made this coat before in a heavy suiting with interlining- it’s much better now it’s made with “real” coat fabric! It was a race to finish the coat before the cold weather started. The coat has a back pleat/vent and welt pockets with top-stitching around the collar and hem.
Thick purple wool-melton type fabric with a herringbone self-colour pattern I bought in Paris. I suspect it is a wool-polyester mix. Lining from lightweight fashion fabric. Purple buttons. Other tailoring notions: horsehair canvas, cotton twill tape, muslin back stay, shoulder pads.
Advanced
Style 2547, lent by my mum.
I owe thanks to my colleague D3 for carrying the heavy fabric across Paris as we ran for the Eurostar!
My wonderful husband
I did this by the book, following “Tailoring” from the Singer Sewing Reference Library
