This tutorial walks you through how to make your very own three-tiered petticoat, the perfect addition to your party look! Jamie models the petticoat she made in her own personal skirt to show the effect.
9 1/2 yards of tulle. 1/4 yard of cotton/linen/silk blend. 11 yards of 1" wide satin ribbon. 1 yard of elastic. Materials for this project were purchased at Pacific Trimming Inc. in New York’s Garment District.

Thank you thank you thank you !! I have requested advice on this all week. Just as I had planned to myself. I have two shades of blue tulle and am planning two tiers with a polyester lining to avoid " catches " on my stockings — OH and it will be ballerina length !!

curious: does it really take 9.5 yards of tulle to make this?

For the specific measurements we used for this project, the fabric width we had to work with and the amount of gathering, yes. We double layered the tulle per tier. However, when you customize your own, it could potentially come out to less. Hope this helps!

I’m getting right on this one and making a peek-a-boo petticoat of black and gold to add some solid festive flair to my skirts.

We called them crinolines when I was a little girl in the 1950’s.

That’s what I was thinking.
Aren’t petticoats historically made of cotton or linen, and not multi layered?

Thanks, it was my first time working with tulle! What a great way to “pump up the volume” with existing dresses and skirts! You should make one, too!
