I’ve been wanting to make a pencil skirt for some time. Of course it would have been pretty easy to just draft up a pattern myself but with work, kids and life happening there wasn’t much chance of me getting around to it anytime before Christmas (or any time after that!). BurdaStyle must have known this and produced the Jenny skirt pattern just for me (or so i’d like to think). Just in time for my work Christmas party outfit!
So, i decided to make a test run using some ‘Swimming Paisley’ fabric i’ve had stashed for a while. I made it up in an evening then wondered the next day why i had excess fabric around the tummy. It took me a while to realise i had forgot the darts, can you believe it? So i unpicked the waistband and added the darts.
I was told i looked like a spy by my colleague ;)
The skirt is not lined since the fabric is thick enough and has some stretch.
I have another made already, photos of that one soon.
I’d also just like to mention, although this pattern is easy enough for someone with some skill to make up themselves (me included) it’s not necessarily something we may have the time to do so i’m glad that BurdaStyle has done the work for me otherwise i’d still be thinking about all those pencil skirts i’ve been wanting to make. I’m more than happy to pay $7.50 for 4 variations of a pattern if it’s something i’m going to make over and over and get lots of wear from. Please support BurdaStyle and what they do.
Cotton Elastane, jersey interfacing, thread, invisible zip

What a fantastic print! I love your version. I think this pattern can really be stunning. I’m about to try it out in a thick wool knit. I’m a bit worried about my hips, but anxious for it nonetheless! We’ll see how it works… Fabulous job on yours!
