I have to wear suits for work but being in Australia it is usually too hot to wear a jacket in summer so I thought this would be a great alternative. It’s my first attempt at anything ‘proper’ – I have only made draw-string trousers before now! I wore it for work and whilst no-one said ‘wow!’, no-one pointed at me and said ‘did you make that?’ either so I figure it doesn’t look home-made which is good and a real confidence booster. I think I would make the vest longer next time as I am quite tall and it sits quite high on my waist but other than that they were great patterns to follow.
Cotton/linen mix fabric cost around $15 (Australian) and the buttons, zipper etc another $15 which is great considering to buy a suit would have cost well over $100.
Novice
Burda patterns for the trousers and vest and many thanks to those of you how answered my posting about how to sew zippers – I got there in the end (just don’t look at the inside of the trousers)

They look great. Nice top stitching. The detail is very impressive. I particularly like the pocket on the trousers.

The trousers are great and it’s really easy to follow the pattern. My only trouble was the zipper because I had never sewn one before and couldn’t understand the instructions. The fit was perfect for me and I didn’t have to alter the sizing at all.

A really nice suit. I am a little envious about you thinking of clothes for warm weather. I like especially the vest. Would you recommend the trouser pattern ? I am planning to sew this as well.
