..or anything with legs and without elastic waistband for that matter!
I really wanted to sew low waist shorts out of some stripy fabric I had in stash, but since I never did that before this one actually started as a muslin for that project! I had this gray cotton as a leftover from my earlier project (boys vest? girls vest!), and as there was less than a 1m of it I thought that in the worse case it wouldn’t be such a terrible waste.
In the end, after finishing them I couldn’t force myself to sew the one I planned in the first time! Couldn’t find any suitable pattern so I took some basic trousers pattern and modified it. There was so many details I wanted to add but I run out of fabric (think this was the first time that I used every inch of material), but I saved all those ideas for my next shorts!
I think they turned out great for a first try! Fit is ok, though I couldn’t decide about a length. Next one will be shorter!
cotton, and for inner side of pockets and waistband I used some green/blue lining (also a leftover from my vest)

Nice work! Especially for a first go! I recently made a pair of shorts from a pattern and they were a disaster – I couldn’t get the length from the waist to the crotch right so I have to wear them Harry High Pants style hehe… I also love the sweet lining on the pockets – a lovely touch:-)

Great job. I just bought a pattern to make shorts for the summer, as it is fast approaching here, and so Im really excited to make my own pair. It’ll be my first time making any sort of pant. Hope they turn out as great as yours. What pattern did you use -just for future reference, because I really like the yoke at the back.

Thanks ;) I used pattern from Burda magazine 1/2010, model 120. But back yoke is not part of it, I added it myself. It’s very simple though!
