A dress that can be worn about 30 different ways. They’re sold at american apparel (it is called the le sac dress) but I didn’t want to pay $40 for it.
Simple pattern – basicly two rectangles sewn together with a tube for a drawstring at the top.
It’s so comfortable and my friends are all surprised that I actually made it (they don’t know they’re all getting one for christmas)
Sorry about the picture quality and also, I know the yellow tie doesn’t match, but it was the longest ribbon I could find at my house – I need to go get a longer one.
A yard of rayon/spandex blend and Ribbon (You'll need 10 to 12 feet of it)
Stole the idea from american apparel =]

For those looking for a how-to, Google Le Sac dress and three or four how-to’s will come up. One is from Craftster. It’s really just two rectangles about 30 in. (depending on the length you want) long by 1.5-1.75 times your bust measurement (or hips, if those are wider for you). You sew up the sides to about 6 inches from the top and backstitch. The remaining 6 inches you baste, press really well, top stitch on each side of the stitching and then take out the basting. Make a casing at the top for the tie (Le String, in AA terms ;).), then thread whatever you are using for a tie through. The easiest is ribbon, but you could actually make a tie by making a 150 inch long tube of 3 inch wide fabric and then turning and tying the ends. The longer your tie the more styles you’ll be able to pull off. Also, a word of warning, most of the reviews of the Le Sac dress suggest that this style isn’t especially flattering for busty ladies, although there seem to be a few of the styles that are a bit forgiving in this area.

i love this dress, but how much fabric did you use, and do you think it would work with a less stretchy fabric, because i have some really nice linen-like material that i want to use. thanks

I really like it. It looks really nice. would you be able to tell me roughly how much material you need for one dress? i am really bad at estimating. Thanks

I love this! I was just thinking of doing the same thing! Would you mind uploading the pattern though. I feel like I still don’t exactly understand the concept of the dress but it looks like you do! I love the yellow ribbon too. It contrasts really well and it adds a funky kind of feel. Great work!

I love this dress. I always find American Apparel stuff easy to copy – which is good since I think they’re well overpriced, not sure if it’s the same in the U.S. BTW I like the yellow ribbon with this dress.

Oooooh that looks fabulous!!!!! Really really nice! If you have the time while making them for your friends, can you take some pictures and make a howto?
