My first pair of trousers (and my first project on BurdaStyle!) is based on the 1940s Empire Waist Trouser pattern from Decades of Style. They are wool-blend wide leg trousers and I altered the waist so it sits at my natural waist. With my short torso, I just wasn’t sure how the empire style would look on me. I lined these with Bemberg Rayon and they feel so smooth! The trousers have 2" cuffs. I decided to remove the waist darts at the front and back, and brought in the side seams instead. There is no waistband on these and they close with an invisible zipper at center back.
So incredibly comfortable, and I really love how the wide leg at the hem sways back and forth as I walk! Makes me feel classy, like I’m off for a cocktail with Cary Grant :) I call them my “Seabee” Trousers because they were inspired by my grandfather’s World War II uniform that I inherited. I couldn’t resist pairing his pullover top and sailor’s cap with my trousers in one photo!
The fabric is a navy wool blend. Lining is Bemberg rayon.

I just started these, in a medium weight denim. Yours look great, I’m going to do them at my natural waistline too…I keep thinking of Jessica Simpson ‘Mom’ jeans when I see the really high waist!

Oh, I’d love to see these in denim! That would be really cute. I just did a search for those mom jeans – funny :)

Those are sharp looking pants, and the high waist looks fab on you! I always worry about that too though….
