Wow, it’s been ages since I shared a project. But I got round to it finally :-)
This is a dress I made for my best friend’s wedding this summer. This was also my very first time as a MOH ;-) and I took my maid of honour duties very seriously!
My friend gave me free reins with regard to the dress and of course I had to use a print.
When I was making the dress, I also wanted it to be wearable for other occasions. I’ve worn it a couple of times now with a slouchy sweater and a blazer and some heavy boots and I think it works quite well :-)
The fabric is some kind of polyester blend (all I could afford at the time), but it feels surprisingly soft and lux. I used my trusted bodice block to make a pattern for the bodice. To make sure I wouldn’t expose myself to the wedding party I inserted some nude mesh to hold everything in place. I also sewed some padded bra pad things to the lining, so I didn’t have to wear a bra. Genius those things!!
The skirt is just two large half circles sewn together at the side and ét voila :-)
Polyester, lining, mesh, zipper, bra pads

Very elegant. Did you have to use Hollywood tape?

This is kind of a coincidence, as I was just reading this article (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tracy-mcmillan/why-youre-not-married_b_822088.html) and feeling nothing but pity for myself because I’m due to be a bridesmaid myself… When I turned to burdastyle for some digression, only to be reminded by it again… :-/ Love the dress though, it’s very flattering, can only hope my dress will be as pretty – unfortunately I have no artistic say in the matter, as my gorgeous friend, and bride-to-be, is a bit of a bridezilla :)

oh you shouldn’t feel bad about being a bridesmaid! I had such a good time and it’s really a beautiful thing to be able to be there for your friend on her day. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself a lot :-) the article was hilarious by the way and I hope bridezilla will pick a beautiful dress for you as well :-)

So many different looks with one dress! Gorgeous and sexy. And adding the mesh is a brilliant idea.

Thanks! I think I will try some more things involving mesh :-)
