Like everyone, I tried my luck with the coffee date dress! It is green, and white, and red, and there are cute lady bugs too!
Basically:
- I did the bottom with green fabric
- The top is with white fabric, I thought that one colour only would have been to strict. The lining of the top is green, not that you see it, but I know it, and it makes it special, like lingerie :p
- I added a hint of green to the ruffle, just for cuteness
- I found the belt in a cheap decoration shop! It is a kind of ribbon you kan use to wrap presents… But it’s also washable. It has LADYBUGS on it and has enough white or green to fit with the dress!
- In a crazy moment (again), I decided to cut off ladybugs from the leftover ribbon and handsew them on the skirt, as if they were climbing up to meet up with the ones on the belt. Even better, I handsew all the antennas with black thread! I find it soooo cute!
I think the dress has a more polished look than some of my earlier things. Thanks to grosgrain and her nice tutorial.
The weather was crappy, so the pics are singing-in-the-rain/bookworm ;)

I like what you’ve done with the dress. It’s original and sweet and it gives me a different impression of the basic model. You really imagined it by your own. that’s awesome.

How cute! Love the ladybugs. Again, you convinced me to try out this pattern. It looks way better than in one colour. Besides, photos are sweet!

I love your dress. As you say, if you are going to sew why make one just like every one else. I love your fun photo shoot too.

The most work was cutting the bugs and sew them, but weirdly, I find those details relaxing.
The book is my man’s but I read some of them too. Thud! is my fave…

This is adorable!!! I love your funky dresses (esp the lizzard one and this). I LOVE the ladybird ribbon, I’m on a hunt for some now. :) May have to get my coffee date pattern out again, my last attempt was a disaster.

I figured out that if i have to spend time sewing, I’d rather do things I cannot find in shops… And funky is funnier
May 27, 2010, 02.01 AMby susie17
Exactly =) Did you shorten the bodice so it is under the bust? I found my attempt didn’t sit right where it was, I much prefer under the bust dresses.
May 27, 2010, 06.37 AMby laurwyn
I have sewn the ribbon ON the bottom of the bodice, I guess that helps too
