I made this dress for an art competition in about a week. It was stressful and it didn’t even get a prize! They said it wasn’t “wearable” enough. PSH.
Well it is basically all made out of kroger bags except for the base of the skirt which is a black garbage bag and the base shape for the bra which is paper plates. On each bra cup is one continuous plastic rope woven from strips of the bag. It made a great texture and I was so happy with the finished product anyhow. My model, Rachel, was completely flawless and she made the dress come to life. All in all I am quite glad I put the work in, it turned out to be a great project.

this is amazing! i never would have thought you could get that kind of texture and a look so chic with plastic bags. the judges are stupid.

You say you didn’t win, well sometimes is not about the prize, you could show what you really have. Your creativity sense is what it counts. You go girl! It is very pretty with a very nice color. Thank for those bags.

Those judges can….well do something not nice cause this may not be totally practical BUT ITS AMAZING! I once tried to knit with kroger bags, but gave up due to the annoying texture- be proud be very proud!

I love it! What a great use for what would otherwise be trash! It could easily be made more wearable, but I don’t see why you didn’t win in an art competition. Keep it and use it again! Since when is wearable art supposed to be practical, anyway? It’s not like this design is for everyday use on the streets.

There is definitely a contest out there just waiting to give this design 1st place. It is incredible.

It is completely awesome. You should keep it and put it into several different contests.

Hi there, I see the logical practicality of their answer. It is a great piece but you couldn’t wear it even on a breeze spring day without roasting in it. … other than that I think it’s a good use of all these bags and it looks great on pictures. I think if instead of the paper plates and black garbage bag you used some other recycled form of breatheable fabric it would have been a hit! ;)

yowsa. i would wear it in a heartbeat. this is amazing!

Apr 29, 2010, 12.12 PMby suribabe
Maybe not wearble, but a fantastic design.. I agree with the other people.. its a design you can see on the catwalk. It would be so much fun to go clubbing in that.. :o) Well done!!!
