Burda Style For people who sew

My new year’s resolution was to wear different colours than usual for me (I’m a fairly blue and grey girl). So, since yellow is something I never wear, I bought this yellow boiled wool when visiting family in Rome.

When I got home I pre-washed my fabric. I figured “well, it’s boiled wool, so I can easily wash it at 40°C”… erm… no… It shrank and I had just enough left to make the skirt without hemming (luckily the wool doesn’t ravel).

To be sure the skirt was going to fit I made a muslin first, which is the grey skirt, made with some leftover scraps from my Cozy Winter Skirt.

Both skirts are not hemmed because of lack of fabric. Also they’re a tad shorter than I usually wear, but with some opaque tights or leggins I’ll probably feel covered enough.

I think the yellow looks great combined with the lilac coloured shirt. Definitely a good decision to try new things!

The grey one is perfectly wearable and a great basic.

Pattern from Burda magazine 12/2010 #123. Very easy! I liked the high waist and that the darts are on the side instead of at the top.
