This strapless sweetheart dress is made from contractor-grade garbage bags with two large circles made from plastic grocery bags. It is built on a gray Goodwill sheet foundation, with a drop in lining made from the same sheet. It is has a back vent and the circles are hand-stitched on top. This is a totally functional dress, even though I haven’t worn it out for an event yet.
You can’t, however, hang this garment or iron it :) I thought I could maybe iron it through the lining, but I ended up melting the front panel. Let me tell you, it was not fun to pull it all apart and make a new section!
This dress was designed for a ‘green’ fashion show, where one section focused on recycled materials. The first photo was taken at the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, WA. The others were taken at the runway show when the piece was first showed.

That’s lovely! Sewing with plastic is so different and so fun. For a similar fashion show idea I once made a simple corset out of plastic shopping bags, and a big skirt out of garbage bags and bin liners to go with it. It was so much fun that I have been longing to do it again ever since!

Nice. I was thinking about making a plastic bag shirt for earth day but now that I saw a dress I think this is a good idea too. BEAUTIFUL!!!!
