Description
This was my final for my Surface Design II class. I wanted to make an evening gown depicting my love for snakes and to try to dispel the common myths about them. I initially used a pattern from Burda the Heidi Gown Variation and it looked like the most miserable dress I’ve ever seen so instead I used the top from a Simplicity pattern and the bottom from a vogue pattern. It is all fabric that I hand dyed, embroidered, and screen printed.
Material Notes
Bodice & Underskirt: Silk/Rayon Charmeuse blend
Skirt Overlay: 100% Soft Silk Organza

Thanks everyone! I studied fibers at Tennessee Tech’s Craft Center. It’s an amazing place and some wonderful artists teach there. This was my project for and independent study in surface design that I had to dream up from scratch. I will get another picture up of the embroidery detail (it’s more of just hand stitching with embroidery thread) and the snake pattern.
