A second part of the Tango Collection under development, these pants were inspired by a pair that graced the January 1915 Vanity Fair cover, although these pants were themselves inspired by Paul Poiret’s introduction of “harem pants” to Paris in 1909. They help illustrate the dramatic changes in fashion that were occurring during the years leading up to the First World War (and following its outbreak), partly due to the tango dancing craze that swept Europe. For this modern adaptation, I designed the pants including the mid-calf leg cuffs made out of silk satin. In addition, I designed the blouse to go with the pants, again, loosely based on a blouse dating from 1915, although the organza open sleeves are my own design.
