I am loving the peplum fever this season! When I saw this pretty peplum top and skirt set on Burda’s 08/2012 issue, I had to run to the fabric store immidiately!
I changed the neckline and did bodice alterations to fit my upper half better (I ended up adding side darts). I love the shape of the peplum because it covers my behind nicely ;)
I also LOVE the pencil skirt…it tapers down and it is very flattering!! A nice, basic skirt to wear with everything I made so far this summer!
Plus, my husband LOVES this outit so I think it’s safe to say this is a trendy outfit men can love, too!!

@SachiDespic Check out Richard Chai yellow skirt: http://www.burdastyle.com/blog/new-york-fashion-week-coverage-day-1 The flounce is interesting. If the top seamline of the flounce had an even more pronounced curve (high at the center, curving down to each side), it could be made into an interesting peplum, too…

Yes, the skirt is really cute! It reminded me of Vogue 1170 pattern which I will probably use soon…

Another question: Did you add lining to part 27, the cap sleeve? Thanks so much, sorry for bothering you, I am nearly done with this project, and I have teached myself so much.

I did not add lining to the sleeves because I wanted the sleeves to stay stretchy (I used stretch denim). but sometimes I do add linings to cap sleeves (when the fabric is thin, or I want to “bag” the sleeve hems), so it’s really up to your fabric and preference. Congrats on your nearly finished outfit!! I’m looking forward to seeing it!:)

Beautiful dress (w/perfect alterations!) I’d like to draft the top to change it to a zip-front jacket to wear w/skinny jeans!

I love your version! I hope to make it this fall. The pink areas in your picture meant that you removed or added that part? I am still improving my fitting skills and would love your advice. Thanks!

Hello, Amazing job you have done.!! beautifull.!!! I have a question: The Peplum top doesnt have seam allowance, is that correct? based on your experience.

Thank you!!
I traced the pattern from Magazine, so it does not have seam allowance. If you are downloading from the web, usually “Burda Magazine Patterns” do not have seam allowance. Hope that helps!!

CUUUTEE! I love how it sits on you :) I like the way the sleeves are constructed: not too tight under the arm and very “breathable”. Great job!

Thank you so much!! I used “Tissue fitting” methoad for the second time, and I’m loving this system… so much cheaper and faster than making a muslin! :)

I added the photo of my top front pattern. Yellow part is the originanl size 36 pattern, and pink part is where I added. I ended up taking in 2" total at sides, so I probably should have used size 34 and did the same alteration..
Jul 31, 2012, 10.03 PMby SassyT
Did you just lower the neckline? I will need to do that as am huge at the top. Love your neckline.

I thought the high neckline would be too HOT considering the fabric I chose..
I did “big bust alteration” following the instructions in the book “Fit for Real People” by Pati Palmer & Marta Alto. I added the photo of my top front pattern:)

Adorable…..so contemporary and yet classic at the same time. I think that when you added the darts you added a special touch for that perfect fit.
