I sewed my very own Cute collared dress (from burda #7494) back in February 2011 and my sister wanted me to sew one for her too. My brief: bright, summery, large floral print. Well here it is (and I even convinced her to model it!)
Again, I substituted the dress zipper with an invisible zipper and decreased the amount of pouf generated by the skirt back pleats. I added belt hooks at the side seams to fit a vintage belt. The skirt is lined as per pattern instructions. I didn’t make the jacket included in the pattern.
Dress : Japan Lawn Artist Poppy, red 110cm ($11.95/metre from Spotlight); Collar: Top Pop Poplin, white 112cm ($3.99/metre from Spotlight); Interfacing; 60 cm invisible zipper, white; Pattern notes also suggest silk, taffeta, crepe (dress) and organza (collar)

I am trying to sew this dress and having trouble with the instructions. You have done a wonderful job with yours and wondering if you can help me with the arm bias strip instructions? The instructions say " baste bias strips to armhole edges, right sides facing – open edges lie on allowances"
Does this mean that the raw edges of the bias strip lie on the 1cm seam allowance line on the bodice?
The next step is to “stitch bias strips in place, 1cm from the edge” – which is confusing if i put the edge of the bias strip on the seam allowance line, because i have two edges.
gosh am i making sense? haha

Nice job, Cynthia! Can I ask please what size you used? You sister loks a petite size, did you have to adjust? I have this problem with most of the patterns, the finished product looks a bit too big!

Hi Irina,
Thanks for your encouraging comments.
I cut the Australian size 8 which is roughly European size 34 or US size 2.
Burdastyle patterns are designed for height 168cm, so i had to shorten both bodice and skirt pieces. I usually make a toile and adjust as required. I also compared her measurements to the size chart included in the paper pattern. Website size chart can also be found at the bottom of Burdastyle pages under ‘Website Help’
Hope this helps – Cynthia
