This project was a competition for KSU sophomores through seniors (I am a junior). We were given 5 yards of fabric and 4 yards of trim and told to use as much as possible of both, making an outfit in 18 hours. My inspiration came mostly from the trim, because it is very similar to something i would choose for myself. The trim was originally 3 studs wide with extra leather on the sides. When i made the strap i cut it to be one stud wide, and there was extra unstudded leather that i had cut off. I decided to use it as a detail in the band by cutting it into strips and attaching it. Thanks to this competition i won an internship here at burda style!!!
The body of the dress is made from 100 percent cotton quilting fabric and the trim is leather with metal studs.

Very nice! I love the contrast of the the studded leather against the drapey feminine cut of the mermaid printed cotton! Congrats on the internship, it’s well deserved!

thank you!! i did make a pattern with it. i draped it originally, because i feel like it’s easier to create a better fitting pattern for things with that method.
its pretty funny actually, originally i didn’t intend for a band to be underneath the bust, but the skirt was REALLY short, so i added it, and that’s now my favorite part of the dress!!

ha ha.. accidents sometimes turn out to be really good, the band does look intentional like it was meant to be.. :-)
