Description

I owned and loved some shorts like these in the 80s and wanted to recreate them. I couldn’t find a pattern anywhere so had a go at drafting my own. I am not a pattern designer so will do my best to explain here how I did this. This was a very quick project although I did decide the original shorts were too big and too long so took apart and adjusted.

I took a pair of trousers I own and drew round them with chalk. I then made a circular skirt pattern and added this on at centre front/centre back to give shorts. You need to make an accurate waist measurement and from this draft your circle. There are free directions for trousers in the pirate costume and for a circular skirt drafting on Burda in the free patterns.

Hopefully you can see what I did from the photos. I did not actually make a paper pattern but just drew the pieces out with chalk. I added a side zip and hemmed.
