Welcome warm springtime days with the Chickadee knit top, featuring raglan flutter sleeves, a flattering scoop neck, a curved hemline, and a generously sweet, slouchy fit.
This pattern is well-suited for upcycling. I used two of my boyfriend’s old tee’s for this version, so it was smooth and perfectly worn-in right from the start.

I am writing because I, too, printed it out, with the only oddity being that the test square measures precisely 2 inches. The cover page with instructions looks like it sits on the page the way it should, and the pattern piece pages all have a rectangular border around them that measures appr 5/8" all around. This all looks like it’s printing out as planned, so I really do think the test square is a mistake, that the original really IS 2 inches, not 3….can anyone confirm? I’m about to embark on a period of sewing after a lapse of maybe 40 years…this will likely be the first pattern I will try…hoping to get it right the first time.

is the test sq meant to be 3 inches? ive made sure to print it at 100%, but the test sq only measures 2inches?

to reply to your below question, it turned out fine but I’m usually a 34 anyway. It’s actually a tad big, I wear it as a nightshirt and eventually I will size it down a bit on my next attempt. Sorry for the belated response!

like therest my test square is not 3" (it’s 2" actually) but the pattern seems to have the usual border around it and I was careful to print at 100%, no auto scaling. I’m going to sew it up as is because it seems like it might be right or at least would fit me.

Super cute! I was just wondering, when you made the pattern did you mean for the outer lines to fit with the edge of the paper? My 3 in. test square isn’t turning out the right size and I wondered if that was why.

No, the outer lines should not fit with the edge of the paper. Try checking your printer settings to make sure it is not auto resizing before it prints. Good luck!

Hmmm… For some reason I can’t download the pattern – it’s not your fault, I know, because I have already seen the error message that pops up after I click “Get It” on other pages…. :-(
P.S. Today it’s working!!! Yay!!! Thank you again!!!

Absolutely brillliant !! The first decent pattern in ages – everything else seems too fussy and no good if you are anything bigger than a size 12 (UK) I can’t wait to make this .

Thank you, Prudence for the Chickadee top. This style and size will be just right for the pre-teen and early teen girls in our area. The layout gives me a better way to use remnants of rib knit left from Fall-Winter tops. Cordially, Nehmah

I hope they like it! I went to a concert at Oberlin recently, and this looser fit for tops seems pretty popular with the youngsters.
