A silk maxi skirt made from beautiful sari silk my little brother bought back for me after going away as a Project Manager for Raleigh International near Bangalore. He came back with 3 sets (3 per set) of sari fabric measuring 2.0m x 1.5m. So with 9 beautiful stretches of silk I have been dreaming since last summer of what to sew and have been cautious not to waste the opportunity to sew with such delicate precious fabric.

I finally decided to give it a go and had an idea for a long flowing fitted low waist silk maxi skirt. I couldn’t find a pattern I really liked, so I took ideas from lots of patterns and self drafted this skirt. It has two darts in the back to make it hang nicely and I have a big folded pleat in the front to make it look a little different. I put a zip down the side and although I wanted a circle skirt to make it flow more I very much wanted to keep the design at the bottom rather than having to hem the skirt. This is the result, it reminds me a little of a sari by the way it hangs but it’s my slightly bohemian version!
