Applique Apron-dress

Added Mar 21, 2014

by Ellen Hatteland

Nedre Vats, Norway

I made this apron-dress for my niece’s little darling. The fabric I have used is similar to denim with stretch and cotton for bias all around. The fun part is of course to make the appliques. The pattern is from Ottobre 01/2012. I think she looks very lovely with the dress on :)

Material Notes

Cotton with stretch and cotton for the applique.

I hope to have a Grand-daughter one day and I will make her an apron just like this. I did make a similar dress/apron for my daughter 30 years ago but I never appliqued on it. I think I inserted ric rac just inside the bias edge.

It seems very nice the one you’ve made. I love making clothes for children and I have a lot of fabric left after all my sewing, so it’s great to use it for small garments :)

I like making aprons: I don’t sew them ofen but they are surely great to use the remnants of fabrics and you managed to make just a small apron masterpiece: so bright and girlish; I also like that it can be used both as an apron and a summer dress.

      Hi ellen,
i made mum.a lovely top for our day out to.morrow and one for myself. I bought myself the spring/summer special magazine on tuesday as i can’t resist new sewing mags. It is basically full of patterns i already have from other mags but there where one or two new things. The top i made i have seen before but forgot about so that was worth it. I made one top on wednesday for myself and loved it so i have another cut out and ready to sew later. Mums a lot better but still not up to a big night out so i’m taking her out for the afternoon to.morrow. i will post the photos later if i xan . Happy sewing ellen. That just gorgeous x
