Description

This looked like something fun to make, especially the pleat, which is the show piece of this pattern. However I have busy hair that always needs dressing down, so I made the top with a plain satin strip instead. I struggled with my ancient zip, that was too long and chunky, and from the pic of the back, you can see I need to add a hook and eye to finish the closure. Wont try to take the photo again though, it was me holding the camera and that it came out at all is a fluke. A big thank-you to IchhigoGirl for making the pattern available.

Material Notes

cotton print, satin, old zipper from my stash.

Very cute top! At first glance I also thought the fabric might be batik from Indonesia. :)

Wow, thanks so much for all your amazing comments. It sure is good to get some feedback from fellow sewers. IchiGoGirl, the fabric is from a large chain store, who bulk buy fabrics etc.. Sorry it’s not more exotic :) I was just sizing up what was left of it, and found an imperfection which will limit the rest of the fabrics usefulness, something I find fairly consistent with the chain store. I haven’t yet shopped on the net for fabric, but it will be my next point of call when I want to add to my stash, so if anyone knows any great sites for quality and style please let me know. BTW for the cat lovers, I had to put his basket in the sewing room before he let me finish the top in peace ;o) Happy sewing!

So very beautiful. I love your fabric as well as the satin edging. (Thanks for adding the photo of your cat evaluating the garment. Cats are so funny the way they have to plop down in the middle of whatever you’re doing!)

Ooooh, I love it! The satin trim goes much better with the material you chose than the pleat would have, good choice :-). Is the material indonesian (Bali?)? Anyway, it’s gorgeous. I need to do some internet fabric-shopping I think! Thanks for posting it :-)!

very cute. i love the fabric. too bad dogs and cats don’t have thumbs, they could help out with the sewing rather than digging in and making nests outta fabric, stepping on the sewing pedals and eating pin cushions!!
