Description

After that scarf dress contest a while back, I had an itch to try shirring in new ways. The skirt of this dress is made from my scarf dress – I shirred the entire skirt in two directions (back and forth, then up and down). It created a really interesting texture, but turned out kind of funky, and I don’t think I’ll wear it. Still, it
was a fun project. The bodice is the bodice from “The next big thing” in ‘Twinkle Sews’

Material Notes

sheer curtains!

    Thanks you all!

It really wasn’t difficult, though it did take some time. I just sewed the curtains into a tube, then shirred the top 4-5 inches with about 1/2 inch spacing between the lines of shirring. After that, I spiraled all the way down the skirt at about 1.5 inches spacing. When that was done, I started at a seam at the top (well, below the waistband shirring) and sewed all the way to the bottom (with the shirring elastic in the bobbin — same as usual), when I got to the bottom, I made a turn and sewed back up, about 1.5 inches away so that the shirring made little boxed. The hem ended up totally wonky (as you might imagine), so I made a lining underskirt and sewed the hem to it — like you would for a bubble skirt. It’s kind of a pain to put on, because I didn’t attach the two waist bands (should have).

And that’s not me in the picture — it’s my friend who was nice enough model. I’m not nearly as thin as her, and this skirt adds a fair bit of visual weight with all that bunchiness :)

Love it. If you don’t want to wear it i’ll wear it! And many others will want to. you say it is novice difficulty but it looks a lot more difficult.
