Description

This design by Twinkle by Wenlan is a sneak peak into Wenlans book Twinkle Sews

One skirt, two ways: Cerulean blue wool knitted tricot gives structure to this perfect winter workweek skirt, but if you want to create a look that’s more luxe, make it in shiny fabric such as brocade, duchesse satin, or gold Lurex™.

This pattern is following the size chart of Twinkle by Wenlan, which you can find here on step 5 of the instructions..

Help! I don’t understand where the pleats are supposed to go on the front of the skirt. I am using the size 4 and I see the dash line and the upside down “T” with this line but I don’t know how to match any of it up. Please help me before I rip this pattern up.

I am a Burda size 40, and the size 8 on the pattern sheets fit me beautifully. Hope this helps someone! Great pattern, I love my new skirt!

Hey on the top of this page, under “A plus A line by Twinkle by Wenlan” you see 3 tabs – Main, instruction and Finished Projects. Go to Instructions, then click on the 5th picture where it gives measurements. Pattern sizing is really different from store sizing. You measure yourself, then see which measurements you are close to. However, when I made this skirt, I thought the sizing was off (I had to make a larger skirt than the measurements said) so before you cut out fabric, make sure the paper pattern fits around your body.

Thanks calender, I went for the 8 on the pattern and thought this would be too big and I could tailor back down but it turned out to be literally just the right size so you are right about the sizing being off!!!

So I’m trying again on my Mac to download this beast and I still get empty page markers for pgs 2-51. I’m using Safari 3.2.1 and OS 10.4.11. On my work PC (windows XP)I was able to download but not print…. I don’t think the network likes big PDF files and yet I was able to print up to page 11 (fighting freezes and slow spooling) before my PC ground to a final, dismal halt. I was never able to successfully upload the PDF to the fedex/kinkos site (as I mentioned) and because I can’t download a full pattern on my Mac I can’t upload to Fedex from this computer. MAJOR bummer. I have such pretty fabric and time is running out for the contest!! I’ll try again tomorrow but at this rate, what’s the rush? :-( OK rant over. I’m going to go pout and sew button holes.

I ran all my Mac updates this morning (Safari 4.0.3) and I’m still getting a bad download of the file. This sucks.

I have Mac and running Safari 4.0.3, I have the same problems with nearly all the PDF’s on Burda. If you have Adobe Acrobat program (not Adobe Reader), open the file within the Acrobat program and all the pages should be visible, then re-save in Acrobat. Hope this helps.

I’m having SO MUCH TROUBLE with this pattern file. It freezes my PC (XP) every time I try to print it. I tried extracting the individual pages and they also caused it to freeze. I tried printing some other PDFs to make sure it isn’t Adobe Reader, and I have not problems. I’m a bit discouraged because the digital file downloaded to my MAC is almost empty… Anyone else having problems with this file?

I also tried uploading the file to FedEx/ Kinkos online printing service and that wouldn’t work either.
So I’m still trying to print from the PC and so far, I’ve been able to get the first 5 pages to print but no more than that.

1.6 M is WAYYY too much for this pattern. I would say probably a little over one yard would be enough. Go with the size chart in the pattern how they say to do it. Mine was pretty much right, but be sure to check the yoke on yourself before you start making the thing. Mine was a little wonky because my figure is more straight from waist to hip. Good easy pattern thouguh!!

I just finished making the skirt and it’s great. I love it. The hardest part was taping the 40 pages of the pattern together. For the fabric I would suggest that you get your pattern ready and then measure the pieces because 1.6m was too much for a size 12 skirt. I made the skirt in a soft brown wool knit but they had the blue wool almost the same colour as the pattern so I think I’ll go back, get some, and make another.

Great job Burda and Twinkle, a really nice skirt, good competition and covetable prizes. I want to get involved but I am having trouble with the sizing…maybe someone can help me out?

My measurements (30 inch waist, 40 inch hip) indicate that I am a size 10 for this skirt but the sizes on the pattern pieces jump 2 sizes at a time and go straight from 8 to 12, does this mean I will have to grade the whole pattern before I start? Also it mentions in step 5 of the instructions to ‘select the pattern size according to your hip measurement plus 2-4" ease.’ Does this mean my measurements plus 2 inches? If so then that size is not on the chart (which stops at size 10, 40" hip)……..Please….can anyone help me out with what pattern size I should go for?

    Thanks for your time,

    Cheers, Candy

I am a Burda size 42 and according to the size chart I am a 10 (no way!) so I cut the paper pattern at size 12 and it looked way too small so I added and extra 5/8 as a seam allowance. I cut the fabric and sewed as far as attaching the yoke…way too small still. Last night I cut for the size 16, and added two lots of 5/8 extra to the sides but it is still too small. I am so frustrated. I have now added a panel to each side so it will fit. I top stitched them so they look like they are not a mistake. I am quite disappointed.

      If you read the instructions:

      “…MATERIALS
      1 3/4 yd (1.6m) wool tricot
      1 3/4 yd (1.6m) lightweight lining fabric…”
      etc.

Very nice skirt pattern! I especially like the yoke, keeping it nice and flat over the tummy area, with the pleats falling below. The lining pattern can be used to make a yoked skirt without pleats too…like a bonus free pattern. Very generous of Twinkle to give this to everyone here.

Is there a reason why the sizes listed in page 5 of the instructions only go up to 10, but the pattern seems to go up to 16? Does the pattern follow the standard Burda sizes at 12 and 16, because the lack of documentation in the instructions makes it difficult to choose one of the larger sizes. Thanks.

I agree: where are the larger sizes? I need this in a UK 14-14. And it doesn’t state how much fabric is needed, which makes it difficult when buying!

      I meant to write UK 12-14 – - – NOT 14-14 which doesn’t make sense lol.

Well I guess it would be a great pattern if the file were not damaged and could not be repaired. (Firefox)

I can not get Burda Style to launch at all using Internet Explorer because of all the ads.

Very nice skirt! And it’s a free pattern, yey! And the sizing-chart has a size exactily my measurements, yey again and very good information, esp. since I consider buying one or two of Wenlans books… thank you so much Burdastyle + Wenlan (but metric sizes in the sizing chart would be even better)!
