Burda Style For people who sew
Description
Since I started sewing some years ago I always was fascinated by technics that are needed for vintage and traditional clothers. I love the look of handmade/handstitched dirndls of Lena Hoschek and other european designers. This autumn we made a tour through austria – the perfect moment to sew my own dirndl.
So far I never worked so much hours and with so much handstitching on a sewing project like I did for that dress – maybe you can imagine it during looking some of the pictures that shows details from the out- and inside of the dress. I used a pattern of a german dirndl-magazine and read a lot about traditional sewingtechnics in books and the internet. It took so much time, but I enjoyed the hole workingprocess.
Because a dindl isn’t really typical in my home country I made some alterations, so that it looks like a 50’sStyle-Dress without the apron and the blouse. In the last pictures you can see two variations I can wear the dress this way. Like the apron the red and the yellow tie-belt are handmade, too.
Underneath the dirndl I wear a white dirndl-blouse – I bought it in a shop for traditional costumes in austria – and a black petticoat of Lena Hoschek. In the background of the pictures you can see some traditional cloths and fabrics I also bought during my holiday for new projects. I’m looking forward to some more handstitching and detailing projects.
Material Notes
black cotton with little white dots and small roses
yellow cotton with flowers as lining and for the tie-belt
stripes of black and white gingham to work the pleats
red cotton wit little black flowers for the apron and the tie-belt
buttons, ribbons and cottonlace for the details

Really really well done! Fantastic details, your hard work paid off! I made a Dirndl this year for a fest too, but only got as far as the skirt and apron :)

Yes, I think so too! I can’t remember another dress I was so proud of because of all the handstitching work. (: Is your dirndl published in your burdastyle studio?
