On the upper back pieces, stitch the darts and press toward centre back. Stitch the shoulder seams of the ­upper pieces (seam number 5). On side edges, trim allowance to 1 cm ( 3/8 in) wide, and press to inside. Bind edge of pressed seam allow­ances with bias lining strip, 5 mm (3/16 in) wide. Sew bound allowances in place by hand. Gather upper fronts between asterisks to 8.5 – 9 – 9.5 – 10.5 – 11 cm (33/8 – 31/2 – 33/4 – 41/4 – 4 3/8 ins).
