Pleating/Ruching/Gathering Neckline in Tshirt (12216 Views)

Work with V neck, Scoop neck, etc.

You can start with any T shirt pattern,check out Lydia t shirt pattern in this website. 1. figure out V neck deep and wide ( dash line) 2. make your V neck band pattern( solid line) and copy it. 3. copy the bodice, at the neck line , copy from solid line down. 4. draw 4 lines. Note that the first line start from V point /on center front. Try to draw lines close to the center front. Check out the original top, you'll see that all the fullness around the hemline is close to the center front, it doesn't spread to the side seam.
Step 4 of 4
1. cut and spread. (the more you spread the deeper pleat you will get)
2. Fold your pleats and true line, while still fold, cut the v neck line, you will get the uneven line, that is good.
3. mark the pleats so that you know where to fold them.
4. add your seam allowance to all of your pieces.

thanks! I love it when you show how to alter patterns like this (and the leg of mutton top). I find it's really easy to understand when I see it and then I can start learning how to pimp my own patterns!! :)

Thanks J.J., your method would add that extra fullness at the bust and waist without turning a pattern into a muumuu. Keep the how-to's coming. You are saving sewers a lot of time and grief. Cordially, Nehmah
