Make a reversible Sidonie skirt (3092 Views)
How to make a reversible Sidonie skirt.
For elastic fabrics! You need no zipper!
Two skirts in one.
Great for traveling or when you accidentally spill something on it ;).
Sorry about my english, it´s not my mother tongue! I hope you will understand what I mean in my instructions ;)!

Step 1 of 16
Cut out the pattern in you size. You need not the pattern for the lining.
To lower the waistband:
Make the points on both sides of the pattern pieces where you want to have the waistband.
I shortend it about 15 cm (including seam allowence), so it sits a little about my hip.
-
Step 2 of 16
Connecting the points and cut or fold it.
Maybe you must adjust the waistband a bit.
When you want to make in-seam pockets, make signs on the pattern.
Now sew both skirts after the instructions and add in-seam pockets when you want, but leave the waistband. And leave the zipper.
Use an elastic stitch!
-
Step 3 of 16
Lie the skirts into each other, right sides facing. Back piece on back piece, and front piece on front piece.
Baste your skirts on the hemline. Stitch.
I add a "waving" stripe, but you can do this also on the originall hem.
After this turn it, now it must look like in the picture.
-
Step 4 of 16
Press the seam allowences apart.
-
Step 5 of 16
Turn your skirt so that the left sides facing.
Baste the hem.
-
Step 6 of 16
-
Step 7 of 16
When you have insert in seam pockets, it´s better to fix them.
-
Step 8 of 16
Be sure that they lie correctly over each other, in other way the skirt won´t come out well.
-
Step 9 of 16
Handstitch them together. You can do this on a few points, not overall.
-
Step 10 of 16
Be sure that the two skirts lie correctly over each other and baste them together.
Now add the waistband.
Be sure that the right fabrics come together (by me: brown to brown, flowers to flowers). Right sides facing.
First baste one waistband.
-
Step 11 of 16
And then the other waistband. So they come together to one waistband. Now you cannot open the two skirts anymore.
-
Step 12 of 16
-
Step 13 of 16
To close the skirt press the seam allowences inwards.
-
Step 14 of 16
-
Step 15 of 16
And stitch where the skirt and the waistband come together. (for more consistence)
-
Step 16 of 16
Now it´s ready to wear.
Good luck for you and happy sewing!

Here is the link to my creation.
This is an excellent tutorial. I have learned a new, better way to add pockets to the skirts. Your English is fine by me.
Once I learned how to make a reversible vest I never went back to making them the other way. You, fashion1, have changed how I will be making skirts. I love learning how to make good looking reversible skirts AND with pockets! I love pockets!
I do have one question, the fabric, you call it elastic fabrics, do you know if that is the same as stretch fabric in the USA? Your fabric doesn't look stretch to me but it sounds like it is. It seems this would work either way stretch or non-stretch.
