I am very, very new to sewing I want to start out with some simple curtains/drapes—basically I am going to hem the fabric on all four sides and then hang them using curtain clips—super simple. However…
my window is huge, currently I have two 6’ wide x 9’ tall drop cloths as curtains, I want to update that window and use fabric with a print—I really LOVE the Richloom lucy eden fabric and I really have my heart set on using it.

My question is since this fabric is only 54" wide and I need it to be 72" can I sew two pieces together to make it wide enough or will that create a weird look? The fabric is $24/yard, I need a lot of it and I don’t want to buy it, sew it together and realize it looks awful.

Please help!!!
Will I just have to use it to make pillow?? Can anyone suggest a source for wide fabrics with fun prints like the Richloom one?
Thanks!!

What a wonderful pattern! Yes, I think that will look fine 72" wide.

When you buy it, you will need to buy enough to get the pattern to match across the width, or it’ll look odd. Look up what the pattern repeat size is (that is, the distance between the top of the pattern and where that starts again), and get the store to work out the yardage you will need.

You will have chunks left over from doing the pattern matching. This will be great for making cushion covers. If you think it’ll be too overpowering to have the pattern all over the cushions, pick a motif from the pattern, center that on the cushion, and give it a border in a colour taken from the print.

Cannot find one with pictures, you have a 27" repeat so you will need extra fabric for matching, double bottom hems and for pleating even if using the clips on the width it needs to be much wider than window. http://www.alternative-windows.com/matching- fabric.htm

I posted this before for another member on sewing the curtains:

Hoping others have more input on other stores for fabric. Let us know if this helps if not keep asking questions.
