Hello all, I’m Lucas and I’m pretty much completely new to sewing. I want to get started with it, but I’m not sure what to make first. I want to do an easy first project that doesn’t require too much fabric (just in case/when I mess up). Does anyone have any suggestions on what to make as a 1st project?

Try the Charlie bag http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/charlie-reusable-grocery-bag always a good start that you can add your personality too without trouble and use the end product. Also if you go to the novice section in the patterns on this site there are all sorts of quick projects to get you started. good luck and enjoy!

Oh, yes! Bags are a fantastic place to start. Make them out of curtain remnants. Tough fabric for dirt cheap!

The Linda skirt is also a very easy project with great results. You can find the patterns on http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/linda.

    Success!

At this time of the year Christmas gifts and/ or decorations can be rewarding for you and the receiver of the gift. Make Christmas place mats, table runners, tree decorations. For gifts – cushions, bags, pencil cases, make-up bags, soft toys, hats, scarves - trawl through the projects thoroughly for ideas.

Thanks for all the ideas, I think I’ll try one or more of these and see how I do.

This site might be useful if you fancy it. Maybe we could make a digital Burda tree!
